The Centre for Corrosion Studies (C2S) is an independent, non-commercial corrosion science research institute and academic-industry convening body, dedicated to advancing corrosion science and infrastructure resilience across Ghana and Africa.
Corrosion remains one of the world's most costly engineering challenges, affecting infrastructure, industrial facilities, transportation systems, energy assets, and public safety. Yet awareness of corrosion engineering remains limited within many academic and professional communities across the continent.
C2S was established to bridge this gap: original scientific research on one side, and direct partnership with technical universities on the other, connecting students, researchers, and the industries that need corrosion expertise.
Through original research and academic-industry partnership, guest teaching, curriculum input, joint research, and structured placement pipelines, the Centre seeks to build the next generation of corrosion professionals while contributing to the protection of critical infrastructure throughout Africa.
C2S was founded in 2026 around a gap its founding engineers had seen first-hand in the field: corrosion costs billions globally, yet African engineers routinely graduate without ever studying it. The Centre was established to close that gap in Ghana and across West Africa, combining materials engineering with practical oil and gas asset integrity experience rather than treating corrosion as a purely academic subject.
We are proud to launch our inaugural webinar on 27 June 2026, a free event open to students, engineers, and professionals across Africa. This marks the beginning of our journey to build a community of corrosion-aware practitioners.
Today, C2S is growing its network of partners across academia, industry, and government to make corrosion engineering a recognised and respected discipline in Africa.
