Privacy Policy

Introduction

The Centre for Corrosion Studies (C2S) holds certain personal data about living individuals in order to operate our website, respond to enquiries, and run our partnership, research, and webinar programmes. C2S recognises the importance of the correct and lawful treatment of personal data, and this is important to maintaining the trust of the students, engineers, partners, and organisations we work with.

The types of personal data C2S may hold include, as examples, information about: visitors who submit our contact form; individuals who register for a C2S webinar or event; and partners, collaborators, and suppliers with whom we communicate. This personal data, whether held on our website's form-processing services or elsewhere, is subject to the appropriate legal safeguards as specified in Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).

C2S endorses and aims to adhere to the eight data protection principles set out in Act 843. These principles specify the conditions that must be satisfied in relation to obtaining, handling, processing, and storing personal data.

What we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact form submissions (via our website, processed by our own website backend and delivered by email through Resend, our email service provider): your name, organisation, email address, area of interest, and message.
  • Webinar and event registrations (via Google Forms, or via LinkedIn's own event registration forms where we use them): your name and email address, and any other field the specific registration form asks for.
  • Basic technical data collected automatically by our hosting and content delivery infrastructure (Cloudflare) for security and performance purposes, such as IP address and browser type. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or sell this data.

Principles

The principles require that personal data shall be handled in line with:

  1. Accountability: C2S is responsible for ensuring compliance with these principles, and does not treat that responsibility as outsourced to any third-party service we use.
  2. Lawfulness of processing: personal data is processed lawfully and in a manner that does not infringe your privacy.
  3. Specification of purpose: data is only collected for a specific, clearly explained, lawful purpose, identified before we collect it.
  4. Compatibility of further processing: any further use of your data stays compatible with the purpose it was originally collected for.
  5. Quality of information: we take reasonable steps to keep the personal data we hold accurate, complete, and up to date.
  6. Openness: we tell you what data we collect, who we are, why we collect it, and which third parties (our form-processing providers) may see it, which is exactly what this page is for.
  7. Data security safeguards: we take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect the personal data we hold.
  8. Data subject participation: you can ask what data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it.

How we satisfy these principles

In order to meet these principles, C2S:

  • Only collects personal data through the specific forms described above, for the specific purpose stated at the point of collection (responding to an enquiry, or registering you for an event).
  • Does not sell or rent personal data to anyone.
  • Only shares form submissions with the third-party services that make the form itself work: Resend for delivering contact form, partnership enquiry, and newsletter submissions by email, Google Forms for most event registrations, and LinkedIn directly for any registration made through a LinkedIn event form. Each of these providers processes data under its own privacy policy in addition to this one.
  • Keeps personal data only as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose it was collected for, for example, to respond to your enquiry or administer the event you registered for.
  • Only uses your contact details to send you further updates about C2S research, partnerships, or events where you registered for something or otherwise gave us your details for that purpose. You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time by emailing us.

Subject access

Anyone whose personal data C2S holds is entitled to:

  • Ask what information C2S holds about them and why.
  • Ask how to gain access to it.
  • Ask us to correct or update it.
  • Ask us to delete it.

Requests can be made in writing to [email protected], and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Data security

We take reasonable precautions to keep personal data secure, including restricting access to it and relying on our hosting and email-delivery providers' own security measures (Cloudflare, Resend, Google Forms, and LinkedIn). No method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, but we aim to use commercially reasonable means to protect your information.
